Interaction: Edpuzzle

Imagen
I liked the Edpuzzle Space oddity from Marta´s blog, so I have used some of her activities with one of my groups. https://edpuzzle.com/media/617fbc0524dfe4412f4734fd The objectives of this session are: ·                     Learn new vocabulary related to space and space travelling. ·                     Revise present simple and present continuous. ·                     Listen to Bristish music and get to know David Bowie. ·                     Read and understand a story (with visual aid). ·                  ...

Genially: a film review

Imagen
This Genially has been created to promote and encourage oral interaction among the students of one of my classes. We have continued working, like in previous tasks, with the cinema topic. The followed steps were the next ones: 1-       Students are divided into small groups of three or four taking into account the different levels to create balanced teams. 2-       They have to choose a film and look information about the cast, plot, characters and everything they would like to include about it. 3-       Then, they start to organise and write the information on Genially 4-       The teacher helps them during the process if they have technical problems or doubts. 5-    Finally, the students show their presentations to the rest of the class explaining every point, one minimum per every student of the group, included about the chosen film. To sum up, the use of...

Storyjumper: a funny story

Imagen
My students were divided into groups of three and four. They could choose their own groups although I supervised them to check there were students from different levels. The sequence of the tasks was: 1-       I created a model to show them in class before doing the activity to give them background and some basic notions about the task 2-     Then, taking into account it was their first time using this tool, I gave them almost total freedom to create their Storyjumper. The two only conditions were to write a funny story and use informal language and some phrasal verbs. 3-       After that they used their laptops to complete the task, which took a couple of sessions. 4-       Finally, they presented their booklets to the rest of the class and we organised a little speaking to give our opinions abouts the created booklets such as which ones have been the funniest and so on The main lear...

Edpuzzle cinema

Imagen
In the last few weeks, we are studying in class the topic: “cinema and movies”, so I have decided to choose two short YouTube videos - from the movies “Lord of the Rings” and “Spiderman”- which have been cut using Edpuzzle. Apart from being popular movies for many of my students, my choice is based on the importance of the dialogues that appear in both scenes. Besides, we can use them to practise several skills as well as reviewing irregular verbs and other contents. The sequence of activities was: First, the students watched the videos at home – I flipped the class in this part – to look for possible unknown words or expressions in the dialogues of both films, and I asked them to write down all the verbs that appear in both clips too.   Then, we watched both videos together in class and reviewed the new words and expressions they have found in the dialogues previously. Afterwards, I wrote in the whiteboard all the verbs they have written down from the videos at home a...

Timetoast (timelines)

This activity has the main objective of putting into practice, using the new technologies, some of the vocabulary and grammar contents seen in class and related to the topic of the unit (movies) as well as developing their abilities to summarize texts.       The main advantage of using Timetoast for this purpose is that they have to cooperate and work together to select the basic information from the texts provided and a general view, thanks to the timespan, of the box office evolution of some of the most important films of the 21st century.        First of all, we went to the computer classroom to perform the task. Then, we organised the groups of students and logged in the Timetoast webpage. After explaining the students how the webpage works and the meaning of some words such as draft, I provided them the different texts about the highest-grossing movies of the 21 st century (20 in total) collected from...

Reflect on reading habits

Imagen
In the images related to reading, we can observe several types of texts and books such as novels and newspapers. Some of them were chosen by someone else for sure, for instance the children at school, which is the most common thing when you are a kid beginning to read. Your parents, elder siblings or teachers are usually the ones who recommend you some books or comics in your childhood. Furthermore, a ll the images share the feeling of being very interested and focus on the act of reading. A feeling so powerful that make you forget about everything around you.  I do like the black and white picture of the woman pointing a drawing at the girl because it reminds me when my mother and I used to read together. Besides, the picture of the children at the school also reminds me the great amount of spanish books I read when I was a teen at high school. Nowadays, I enjoy reading a lot and different genres such as novel, poetry, comic and essay in both languages (Spanish and English)...
