Storyjumper: a funny story

My students were divided into groups of three and four. They could choose their own groups although I supervised them to check there were students from different levels.

The sequence of the tasks was:

1-      I created a model to show them in class before doing the activity to give them background and some basic notions about the task

2-   Then, taking into account it was their first time using this tool, I gave them almost total freedom to create their Storyjumper. The two only conditions were to write a funny story and use informal language and some phrasal verbs.

3-      After that they used their laptops to complete the task, which took a couple of sessions.

4-      Finally, they presented their booklets to the rest of the class and we organised a little speaking to give our opinions abouts the created booklets such as which ones have been the funniest and so on

The main learning objective for this activity was just having fun writing in English using some phrasal verbs and colloquial expressions as well as learning to use a new tool. Besides, I think the options and designs offered by Storyjumper are great to promote creativity and imagination in the students. They also enjoyed using computers in class and, despite of the fact that some of them had some drawbacks using the tool at the beginning, they liked a lot using Storyjumper.

Nevertheless, the task took us more time I have expected at the beginning and some booklets were too simple so I will try to guide the students much more the next time to improve some presentations.
