Timetoast (timelines)

This activity has the main objective of putting into practice, using the new technologies, some of the vocabulary and grammar contents seen in class and related to the topic of the unit (movies) as well as developing their abilities to summarize texts.

The main advantage of using Timetoast for this purpose is that they have to cooperate and work together to select the basic information from the texts provided and a general view, thanks to the timespan, of the box office evolution of some of the most important films of the 21st century.

First of all, we went to the computer classroom to perform the task. Then, we organised the groups of students and logged in the Timetoast webpage. After explaining the students how the webpage works and the meaning of some words such as draft, I provided them the different texts about the highest-grossing movies of the 21 st century (20 in total) collected from a website whose link they received too.

Otherwise, there weren´t important problems to complete the task, just some doubts about vocabulary or how to share the timeline once you have finished it. The students were very focus on the task and glad about their final results. They considered Timetoast an intuitive tool easy to use.

Honestly, I wouldn´t change anything for the next time checking the results, but I think we can try to create more complex and longer timelines in the future.

Finally, I believe Timetoast has been useful for promoting cooperative work and putting in a visual context some of the most important movies of the century as well as for practising vocabulary related to cinema, the past simple / present perfect and the ability to summarize texts.
